Learn to identify VGC Pokemon faster from the first frame.

The Dex mode trains fast species recognition so players can identify common VGC Pokemon, their likely typing, and the kind of pressure they bring before the turn starts.

Species ID Typing recall Meta familiarity

This mode will teach you:

  • how to read team preview faster before you lock leads
  • why is everyone using Incineroar / Rillaboom / Amoonguss
  • how to spot Trick Room setters from six Pokemon
  • what typings meta threats usually run
  • cool offensive Pokemon you keep seeing on ladder
  • how to tell dual-types apart at a glance

What This Mode Trains

  • Recognize common VGC species and likely typings on sight.
  • Reduce time lost to basic identification during preview and early turns.
  • Build stronger instincts for what each Pokemon usually threatens.

Why It Matters in VGC

  • You cannot plan around a Pokemon if you need extra time to identify it first.
  • Fast recognition improves both team preview and in-battle decisions.
  • It helps newer players build confidence on species reads before they lean on heavier drills.
Example

You see Farigiraf, Incineroar, and Rillaboom on preview. Faster species recognition means faster reads on Fake Out pressure, terrain control, and Trick Room support.

Is this only for beginners?

It helps beginners most, but even strong players benefit from faster recognition when the format changes or new threats become common.

Does it teach matchups too?

Primarily it teaches species recognition. It supports matchup learning by making the first identification step automatic.
